What the calculation assumes
- Per-guest amounts are yours: no Montreal market price is assumed.
- The gratuity and tax percentage applies to per-guest costs only, not to fixed costs.
- Venue and catering minimums are not modelled — below a certain headcount they can cancel out the saving.
- Children, vendor meals and evening-only guests are often counted differently; adjust the number accordingly.

Why does the per-guest cost fall when I add guests?
Because the fixed costs spread over more people. The AVERAGE cost falls, but the cost of each additional guest — the marginal cost — stays the same, and the total rises.
How much can I really save by cutting the list?
The marginal cost per guest times the number removed. That is the figure the tool shows — not the average cost, which would overstate the saving.
Do venue minimums change the maths?
Yes. Many venues impose a minimum spend or headcount. Below that threshold, removing guests no longer reduces the bill. Check your contract before cutting.
