Amazigh (Berber) community

The Indigenous peoples of North Africa.

Overview

The Amazigh (Berber) community, largely arriving via Algeria and Morocco, is part of Montreal’s wider Maghrebi population. Predominantly French-speaking, it is present in Saint-Laurent and Côte-des-Neiges.

Amazigh associations celebrate language and culture, including Yennayer (the Amazigh new year).
