You do not need to go far to enjoy nature with kids. Between the island’s big parks, urban beaches and national parks under an hour away, Montreal is a genuine year-round outdoor playground.
On the island
Mount Royal Park and Parc Jean-Drapeau offer trails, picnic areas and urban beaches that are easy to reach by transit — ideal for a half-day with minimal planning.
A short drive away
National parks like Oka or Mont-Saint-Bruno add swimming, easy hiking and wildlife viewing. For a day trip, leave early, pack a picnic and check whether daily access must be reserved in peak season.
On the water
Kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding are within reach once kids can swim and wear a life jacket. Start with calm water and supervised rentals before aiming bigger.
- Always check the forecast and UV index before you go.
- Bring sunscreen, water and a change of clothes.
- Respect park rules and pack out what you bring in.
